Dessert Night: Cherry/Pineapple Dump Cake


Homemade desserts are a rarity in my house, and possibly yours as well. By the time I get off work and get home, it’s already late into the evening. By the time I get dinner over with, rarely have I had time to make much of anything for dessert as well. Not that it’s needed, mind you. But, it’s nice to have something to fix the occasional sweet tooth.

If you’ve never heard of a “dump cake” before or tried it, you’re definitely missing out! It’s one of the easiest, most delicious concoctions I’ve ever made. “Dump cake” is a term generally used for a recipe in which (cake mix+fruit/fruit filling)+dump everything into a pan and bake=awesomeness. When I first shared the term with my boyfriend (who’s a chef, mind you) he wrinkled up his nose and wanted nothing to do with anything by that name. I finally convinced him to try it and needless to say, it didn’t last long. Try the recipe below and see for yourself!

Ingredients:

1 can cherry pie filling
1 can crushed pineapple
1/2 stick butter, cut into slabs
1 box yellow cake mix

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Pour undrained pineapple into greased 9″x13″ cake pan. Add cherry filling to the mix and use a butter knife to “cut” the two together. Pour cake mix over top and level off. Evenly space pats of sliced butter over top of cake mix.┬áNow pop it in the oven and bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until top is lightly browned and bubbly.
